Ayurveda is the traditional herbal medicine of India. It translates as the science or knowledge of life. "Ayu" means life, "r" means of, and "veda" science or knowledge.
According to Ayurveda life is not only to be lived by the body, but also by the mind, senses and soul. Ayurveda aims to bring balance to the whole being.
Traditionally an Ayurvedic physician would offer massage (abhyanga) along with steam (Swedana) in order to assist and prepare for the removal of toxins from the body with Panchkarma (purification) therapies. Without Panchkarma therapies Abhyanga and Swedana play an important role in general wellbeing as part of daily regime.
