Sports Massage Therapy

The Sports Massage Diploma with LSTM provides an excellent opportunity for anybody wishing to further their knowledge in this area. The course covers a wide variety of sports massage techniques, in many sporting environments, and will leave any therapist with the confidence to diagnose and treat many common ailments. The treatment techniques covered are not just limited to sports injuries, but can be applied to injuries sustained or associated with everyday life.

LSTM offers a unique learning environment with small study groups (maximum 8 per group) with a friendly and encouraging approach to your development as a therapist.

Course Content

Listed below are some of the topics covered on the course:

  • Functional Anatomy & Range of Motion (ROM) tests.
  • Sports Massage Treatment and Treatment Planning - this will build on prior massage technique.
  • Advanced massage techniques including:
    • Deep Tissue, Frictions & Neuromuscular techniques
    • Soft Tissue Release
    • Muscle Energy Technique
    • Connective Tissue Massage & Myofascial techniques
    • Pre & Post event Massage
  • Injuries & Over-use.

Course Entry Requirements & Pre Requisites

This is a level 3 diploma and requires that the students have a validated massage diploma, including anatomy and physiology, from an authorised governing body. Once accepted on the course you will be expected to complete the following:

All homework tasks, which are designed to enhance learning.

  • 100% attendance of lectures.
  • 40 hours documented practise in a sporting environment.
  • A practical assessments.

Course Duration

This course is held over 7 days

Opportunities

Following successful completion, students could progress to:

  • Work in Sports and Health Clubs as a Sports Therapist.
  • Work as a self employed sports injuries and massage therapist.
  • Further study such as Osteopathy, Chiropractor, Physiotherapist, Sports Science, Acupuncture, and Herbal Medicine.
  • Treat and consult a wider range of clients.
  • Develop Continual Professional Development (CPD) portfolio.

The Examination Body - V.T.C.T.

The Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) is an awarding body offering vocational qualifications in Complementary Therapy and Bodywork. VTCT is recognized and regulated by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), and the Department of Education and Employment. VTCT is an independent examining body that offers impartiality and objectivity in its examinations. VTCT is recognised by insurance companies for professional liability insurance. Practitioner insurance is also available upon successful completion of the course.

Successful candidates will be eligible to join the Sports Massage Association (SMA).
